Student Protest Takes Place as Candace Owens Speaks at Michigan State University for TPUSA Live Free Tour
Michigan State University hosted Candace Owens this week as part of TPUSA’s LiveFree Tour. But as is common for TPUSA events, Owens appearance was met with student protests on campus.
Owens’ speech criticized the gender transition of children, climate alarmism, and the declining value of higher education.
“I think it’s amazing to be in the room with people that do not hold the same opinion as you. When you put yourself in a room with people that agree with you, you stop learning, you stop growing, and you stop challenging yourself. That describes what has become commonplace on college campuses. College campuses now are not even teaching children and students how to think, they’re teaching you guys what to think.“

The event itself was packed with students eager to hear what Owens had to say. Attendees included both conservative students, and students who disagree with Owens but were open-minded enough to hear viewpoints that contradicted their own.
As expected, student protestors at MSU took issue with Owens’ presence on campus. They specifically were there to object to her comments regarding the transitioning of children and the use of puberty blockers.
Signs of protestors read “stop fascism,” and “MSU’s not buying what TPUSA’s selling.” The protestors also chanted vulgar slogans such as “these fascist ***** have got to go.”
Protestors interrupted Owens speech in the lecture hall throughout the event, but were quickly removed by police.
Owens is familiar with heavy backlash for her opinions. Last week, she went viral on social media after posting a photo of her and rapper Kanye West wearing a “White Lives Matter” shirt.
It is not uncommon for TPUSA to have protestors trying to shut down our events on college campuses. There are a growing number of radical leftist students that do not believe conservatives should have the right to engage in free speech. Just last week, San Jose State University cancelled TPUSA contributor Morgonn McMichael’s speech on their campus, stating that TPUSA was not allowed to hold events on campus.
TPUSA will not let protestors stop us from achieving our goals. Our organization is committed to spreading conservative values and giving conservative students, who hold a minority opinion on their university, a voice and sense of belonging by knowing they are not alone in their beliefs.
