No, you’re not hearing things. Season 25 of ABC’s The Bachelor with Matt James isn’t just historic because it features the first-ever black bachelor; it’s also historic because it features the first-ever deaf contestant!
Abigail Heringer is a 25-year-old client financial manager from Beaverton, Oregon, and one of four kids. She lives with her sister Rachel, who also was born with congenital hearing loss. Abigail and Rachel both underwent cochlear implantation surgery at two years old.
She told Matt that she would have to read his lips but that she doesn’t mind cause they’re sexayyyy! Girl, same.
She is the ACTUAL first impression rose winner from the premier, but many other women also caught my eye…for better and for worse.
Kit has been pegged already as the possible “villain” this season, but the only crime I see so far is her carwash dress and biker boots. In every other way, she comes across as prime for TV and reminds me a little bit of the legendary Corinne Olympios from simpler times. People also thought Corinne would be the villain, but she ended up becoming a fan favorite. She also gives serious Emma Roberts from ‘Scream Queens’ energy, which you KNOW I live for. Some fans have pointed out that she looks exactly like that chick from The Queen’s Gambit, though, and I am INTRIGUED.
Another standout moment of the night came from The Bachelor himself when he decided to start the night with a prayer. Rachael started CRYING, which was super sweet. Although in a surprise to no one, allegedly TikTok armies immediately came for her head, claiming that she’s a racist monster. FWIW she is following Black Lives Matter on Instagram *shrug*.
Finally, the last girl you not only need to watch but probably sleep with one eye open around is QUEEN VICTORIA (yes, that’s her name…and her occupation). She beat Kit out for least liked right out the gate, and of course, that means she got the last (aka producer) rose.
The real star was Matt’s mom, who made an appearance on night one and is the ultimate cinnamon roll. Could be a Celine Dion impersonator. His mom is white, and his dad is black, and he says he relates heavily to both sides of his ethnicity equally.
If you’re watching this season, leave a comment and tell me your favorite so far!
