Another college professor has been exposed for posting not-so-subtle tweets of bigotry and antisemitism.
Dr. Omar Suleiman is an adjunct professor of Islamic studies at Southern Methodist University. But despite being a member of the university’s Ethics Center Advisory Board, there’s nothing “ethical” about his comments regarding Israel.
Dr. Suleiman has a long history of posting anti-Semitic content on social media. In 2013, he posted a picture of the “Rabaa” hand gesture. This hand signal is done to show support for the Muslim Brotherhood, an Islamic extremist group that calls for Sharia Law in public life. In 2014-2015, Suleiman compared Israel to Nazis and called the country an apartheid state. He went on to say that Israel’s treatment of Palestinians is a “holocaust.”
In now-deleted tweets, Suleiman has called for a “Third Intifada.” Intifada, the Arabic word for “uprising,” refers to an uprising of Palestinians in Israel. When the Second Intifada happened between 2000-2005, over 1,100 Israelis were killed.
Dr. Suleiman also criticized the prosecution of Aafia Siddiqui. He called Siddiqui his “sister” and claimed that she was put in prison because of a “sham trial.”
Who is Aafia Siddiqui, you ask? She is more commonly known by her nickname “Lady Al-Qaeda.” Siddiqui is currently serving an 86-year sentence for the attempted murder of U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan. And if that’s not a strong enough testament to her character, Siddiqui, during the trial for her crimes, asked her jurors to take DNA tests to ensure that none were Jewish.
Someone should let Dr. Suleiman know that Israel’s population is about 20% Muslim, there are Arabs citizens on courts in Israel, and Arab citizens have voting rights just like Jewish citizens. If Israel is an apartheid state committing genocide against Arabs, then they’re really bad at it.
Contrast that with Gaza: Since Israel pulled out of the Gaza Strip in 2005, the area has been a launchpad for terrorism. Hamas has fired thousands of rockets into Israel, and there are essentially zero Jews living in Gaza due to the fear of death.
The violence and bloodshed in the region is largely one-sided, just not the side that people like Suleiman think it is.
