Despite a massive wildfire burning near Sequoia National Park this week, the ancient giant trees appear to be unscathed by the flames caused by two lightning strikes that have devastated more than 39 square miles.
The park’s giant forest is home to more than 2,000 Sequoia trees, including the world’s largest tree by volume known affectionately as the General Sherman Tree. Because the forest sits on federal land operated and cared for by the National Park service, regular controlled burns and other fire maintenance appear to have saved the trees, for now.
I can’t wait to visit this beautiful place and cross it off my National Parks bucket list! Have you been to Sequoia National Park before?
