Sanctuary Cities House Migrants Without Regard to Federal Immigration Policy

TPUSA Frontlines Reporter Savanah Hernandez visited Boston and New York City to report on the current practices and agendas of sanctuary cities in response to current immigration policies. The leaders of these cities are committed to protecting illegal immigrants, with the ultimate goal of getting them permanent housing.

A person posing as a Spanish-speaking illegal immigrant went into Boston City Hall to ask employees what illegal immigrants are being told and offered regarding their immigration and housing statuses.

A Boston Municipal Protective Services Officer was questioned about the status of Boston as a sanctuary city. He answered the question transparently, and in Spanish:

“None of the police work with the feds.. Boston is a sanctuary city, a hundred percent. The Mayor is an immigrant: yes, she is Chinese.”

The officer addressed the type of migrants being targeted by the police:

“Look the people who are going to get picked up, are people who have records. People who have gotten into trouble, who are in court cases and everything. Normal people, no”

Another employee, in the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Advancement, provided resources aiming to assist migrants in housing. Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey allocated $425 million to housing migrants through June 2025.

Hernandez reported from a Quality Inn hotel in Boston that actively houses illegal immigrants. At another hotel in Boston, an illegal immigrant was arrested for having 5,000 grams of Fentanyl and an AR-15. Several other immigrants have been arrested for connections to South American gangs. Some of them have committed severe crimes, including drug possession, child rape, and murder.

The situation is similar in New York City.

In the Bronx, New York, 2,200 migrant men will be relocated to a building prepared for their exclusive housing. Bronx residents reportedly had no input on this decision.

The building, located on 3222 Bruckner Blvd., was once marketed appealingly for potential residents. It will now be used for migrant housing.

Migrant housing status is designed to go from temporary to permanent, in order to hide or disperse them throughout the state.

Like Boston, the city of New York is allocating contracts and millions of dollars to fund illegal immigrant housing. A woman and minority owned business was given a $340,000 construction management contract in December 2024. Garbage and environmental services were awarded $450 million management contracts as well. Such contracts will enable these entities to manage migrant shelters throughout the city.

In March, four mayors will be testifying in front of a House Oversight Committee regarding sanctuary policies and their violation of federal immigration law. Among those will be the mayors Boston and New York City.

Under the current administration, any city official that circumvents federal law with respect to immigration will be prosecuted. Attorney General Pam Bondi has declared that cities violating federal policy will be cut from federal funding.
