Comedian Rob Schneider spoke out about the Turning Point USA event at UC Berkeley on Monday, where he was a featured speaker, describing the violence and backlash carried out by Antifa agitators.
Schneider appeared on Fox & Friends on Wednesday, where he detailed the so-called “anti-fascists” who tried to prevent attendees from entering the event.
“These people, preventing people from talking and preventing people from getting in, these were the ‘anti-fascists,’” he said. “The Turning Point USA students from Berkeley wanting to have peaceful discourse, peaceful debate, conversations, talking about how much they love God, family and country… these people were called the fascists.”
“Who are the real fascists there?” Schneider asked.
The Berkeley event marked the conclusion of the “This is The Turning Point Tour” and saw agitators gather outside, intimidating attendees by setting off fireworks and tear gas bombs and pushing against barriers. Several arrests were made, according to the Berkeley Police Department.
Shortly after the event, Schneider wrote in a post on X, “I would like to thank ALL the courageous Cal Berkeley students who REFUSED to be intimidated by the ‘not very tolerant’ Left. We KNOW who the REAL FASCISTS are… the thugs who DON’T WANT FREE SPEECH.”
During the event, Schneider told students about an experience he had with actor Robert De Niro, a loud critic of President Donald Trump. He recalled being asked by De Niro how he supports the president.
“I looked right at him and said, ‘I love you. I love you,’” said Schneider. “I swear to God, he looked right at me and went, ‘Okay, okay.’ That’s the only way to handle this. We’re never [going to] be able to out-cancel the cancel culture. They’re better at it than us. It’s gotta be through love.”
