Representative Katie Porter Accuses Swimmer Riley Gaines of Speaking Out for ‘Likes and Clicks’

In an exchange between British commentator Piers Morgan and Representative Katie Porter on HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher,” the Congresswoman accused NCAA swimmer Riley Gaines of speaking out to “get likes and get clicks.”
Last weekend, HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher” featured both Piers Morgan and California Congressional Representative Katie Porter to talk about a number of current political issues. Representative Katie Porter brought up Riley Gaines and stated that she “disagrees strongly” with her comments on female athletes. Porter then accused Gaines of speaking out to “get likes and get clicks.”
Morgan immediately came to Gaines’ defense, stating “All I’ve seen her do is stand up for women’s rights and equality.” Morgan explained that it was “simply unfair” for NCAA transgender swimmer Lia Thomas to compete against biological women and dominate them in competition. “You cannot continue to allow transgender athletes to decimate women’s records, in some cases irrevocably. It’s just not fair,” Morgan stated.
When Representative Porter responded by saying Riley Gaines is speaking out for herself, Morgan quickly replied by saying, “I think she’s speaking up for every female athlete in the world.”
The Congresswoman explained that she believes it should be left up to individual sporting bodies to determine whether or not transgender athletes should be allowed to compete. Maher chimed in to cite Title IX as an example of the government protecting female athletes and ensuring they have equal treatment as their male counterparts.
Gaines took to Twitter in response to Representative Porter’s comments. There, she explained how she is standing up for the next generation of female athletes whose opportunities are under attack.
“I’m not speaking up for myself…I’m done playing sports. I’m not fighting for me. I’m actually supposed to be in dental school this year. But I’ve changed my life plans because I see what’s at stake if someone doesn’t fight for the present and next generation.“
“Why is it always women fighting against sex-based protections? That will forever be beyond me”

This exchange on Maher’s show is proof that the transgender debate is not merely a partisan issue. Both Maher and Morgan have spent their entire careers pushing liberal talking points and would now be labeled as “classically liberal.” Despite that fact, even they refuse to buy into the absurdity of radical gender theory.
“Wokeness is the opposite of what I grew up with as liberalism,” Maher stated at the end of this exchange.
It is unacceptable for men to simply declare that they are women and be given the ability to compete in women’s sports. As more female athletes like Gaines speak out, more hearts and minds across the political spectrum will change.
