Red Sox Fans at Fenway Park Refuse to Buy Bud Light
A TikTok video went viral this week for showing fans at Fenway Park refusing to purchase Bud Light.
Footage posted by TikTok user @luistejadabostonrealtor with the caption “Fenway Park Bud Light stand Ghost Town!” shows Red Sox fans in line at the concession stand during the team’s baseball game last Wednesday. The video shows a long line of fans waiting to purchase beer, then pans over to the completely empty concession stand selling Bud Light.
As seen in the TikTok, the refrigerators behind the concession stand are completely full of Bud Light beer cans, but there is not a single fan in line. One concession stand employee can even be seen leaning forward and scrolling on his phone.
After Bud Light decided to sponsor TikTok star and transgender activist Dylan Mulvaney, the company has seen a significant decline in sales as Americans across the country have initiated a boycott. Conservative beer drinkers are attempting to make a statement that they will refuse to purchase products from companies that do not reflect their values.
In the last week, Bud Light’s domestic sales have dropped 21% to what they were one year ago, and their sales are down 3% this year. Since the Mulvaney controversy, Anheuser-Busch has lost billions of dollars in market cap value.
Anheuser-Busch CEO Michel Doukeris was forced to address the decline in sales due to the boycott. In an earnings call, Doukeris told investors that the company needs to, “clarify the facts that this was one can, one influencer, one post, and not a campaign.”
