A professor at Purdue University Northwest interrupted the first meeting of the campus Turning Point USA chapter by walking to the front of the room and lecturing students about fascism and racism.

The TPUSA chapter held its first meeting of the year when the professor entered and accused members of being racist and fascist. She told the students she would explain what fascism means, saying, “You want to go into classrooms and you want to tell faculty that they’re not allowed to speak the truth about the history of this country.” She then accused the students of wanting educators to be “slaves.”

Following the incident, the TPUSA chapter received large amounts of hateful messages online. Students have defended the professor in posts on social media, with many falsely claiming the club is against minorities and was founded by white supremacists.

According to the chapter, someone created a social media account dedicated to commenting on its Instagram posts and even threatened to leak members’ addresses.

A student on campus also posted fliers telling others to “Beware of Turning Point USA.” One statement on the flier read, “Turning Point USA is a white agency that thrives in twisting facts to further push the goal post to better suit white supremacy. Their founder Charlie Kirk spewed dangerous rhetoric about POC, women, immigrants, & the LGBTGIA+ community. He was their voice and spoke for them. If you are not a straight white, Christian nationalist this is not for you, nor will it ever be for you. It’s a right wing youth indoctrination machine.”
