Pro-Abortion Protestors turn Violent in California, Despite the State’s Unchanging Abortion Laws
Pro-abortion protesters spent the weekend filling the streets in Los Angeles, protesting the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.
Protesters are either upset about other states banning abortions, or they are simply uninformed about what the SCOTUS decision actually means.
Put simply: California will not be restricting access to abortions any time soon. Either way, the outrage in Los Angeles seems seriously misplaced.
California currently allows abortions until approximately 6 months gestation, which is after the point of viability. If a pregnancy threatens the health or wellbeing of the mother, an abortion may be performed after this point.
Regardless of the facts, protesters are going on their fourth day of demonstrating, as reported by NBC Los Angeles . There have been on the ground videos of fireworks being set off in crowded areas, as well as cars being assaulted as protesters overran the 110 Freeway North on Friday afternoon.
Amid the chaos, a protester was arrested for the attempted murder of a police officer by using a makeshift flamethrower. The New York Post reports that the officer is being treated for burns.
The violence is of course entirely uncalled for, but unfortunately not unexpected. LAPD has been updating their Twitter frequently, encouraging the public to safely navigate around the active protest areas.
