President Trump Signs Executive Order to End Federal Funding for Illegal Immigration

President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Wednesday aimed at preventing taxpayer dollars from funding federal resources that support illegal immigration. The administration stated that the order ensures “taxpayer resources are used to protect the interests of American citizens, not illegal aliens.”

The order directs federal departments and agencies to identify and terminate any programs providing financial benefits to illegal immigrants. It also prohibits the use of federal funds for “sanctuary” policies that shield illegal immigrants from enforcement.

“My Administration will uphold the rule of law, defend against the waste of hard-earned taxpayer resources, and protect benefits for American citizens in need, including individuals with disabilities and veterans,” the order stated.

The White House released a fact sheet explaining the intent behind the order, emphasizing that the president “is committed to safeguarding Federal public benefits for American citizens who are truly in need, including individuals with disabilities and veterans.” The administration also blamed the previous administration’s policies for fueling the surge in illegal immigration, arguing that taxpayer dollars are being diverted from citizens while state and local governments face increased financial strain.

“Over the last 4 years, in particular, the prior administration repeatedly undercut the goals of that law, resulting in the improper expenditure of significant taxpayer resources,” the executive order claimed.

Citing the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS), the White House stated that providing welfare to one million illegal immigrants could cost taxpayers $3 billion annually.

The administration highlighted several actions taken to curb illegal immigration, including declaring a national emergency at the southern border, deploying additional personnel—including military forces—designating cartels as terrorist organizations, and other measures to tighten border security.

“It’s an honor to be a part of this organization.”
