Born in October of 1872, Emily Post was an American author and socialite. She was also famous for writing about etiquette. Her book, “Etiquette: In Society, in Business, in Politics and at Home” was written in 1922. Nearly one hundred years later, her messages couldn’t be more appropriate or timely.

On page 529, Ms. Post so eloquently states, “To be a good sportsman, one must be stoic and never show rancor in defeat, or triumph in victory.” She goes on to say, “One who cannot help sulking, or explaining, or protesting when the loser, or exulting when the winner, has no right to take part in games or contests.”

Truer words have never been spoken.
