A recent report from US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) revealed that over 420,000 illegal immigrants convicted of crimes are currently free within the United States. The alarming data was disclosed by Texas Representative Tony Gonzales, who received the statistics in a letter from ICE officials.

“As of July 21, 2024, there were 662,566 noncitizens with criminal histories on ICE’s national docket, which includes those detained by ICE, and on the agency’s non-detained docket,” wrote  Patrick J. Lechleitner, Deputy Director and Senior Official Performing the Duties of the Director for ICE. “Of those, 435,719 are convicted criminals, and 226,847 have pending criminal charges.”

The data further breaks down the types of crimes committed by these illegal immigrants. Among the convictions: 62,231 for assault, 14,301 for burglary, 56,533 for drug-related charges, 13,099 for homicide, 2,521 for kidnapping, and 15,811 for sexual assault.

“The truth is clear—illegal immigrants with a criminal record are coming into our country,” Representative Gonzales said in response to these statistics. “The data released by ICE is beyond disturbing, and it should be a wake-up call for the Biden-Harris administration and cities across the country that hide behind sanctuary policies. It’s time for Washington to move past rhetoric and toward results.”

“Americans deserve to feel safe in their communities,” he continued. “As an Appropriator, I will do everything in my power to ensure ICE has the resources necessary to deport noncitizens with a criminal record—this must be a priority.”

The revelation of these numbers came during the same week that Vice President Kamala Harris made a visit to the southern border. Her trip drew criticism from many, including the Border Patrol Union which labeled her visit as  a mere “photo-op” in the midst of the ongoing migrant crisis under the current administration.

“Turning Point USA is the largest, most impressive, and fastest youth movement in the country.”
