Oklahoma State Superintendent of Public Instruction Ryan Walters has insisted that an elementary school in the state “immediately” terminate a drag queen hired to be the principal.
Shane Murnan, whose drag persona is “Shantel Mandalay,” was previously employed at a drag queen performance venue called “The Boom” before being hired as John Glenn Elementary School’s principal, according to Fox News.
Ryan Walters told the outlet, “It’s outrageous to have a drag queen running a school, you know, here in Oklahoma that doesn’t line up with Oklahoma values.” Adding, “I hear from parents every day that are concerned with this woke left-wing indoctrination or schools, this gender theory that continues to be thrust upon our kids. It’s completely inappropriate.”
Murnan has previous charges for possession of child pornography, which were later dismissed because it could not be proven that “the images were of individuals under the age of 18,” according to Fox News. Records show that the charges were filed more than 20 years ago and that at the time, all of his “electronic devices were subject to a subpoena.”
He has also read books to children at the Metropolitan Library System in the past for Pride celebrations, and dressed in drag while doing so. Murnan also maintains a Facebook page in his persona’s name, which features images of the now-principal in drag.
“This individual is not fit to lead a school district,” Walters said. “It has to stop.”
In a Facebook post, the school district acknowledged the prior charges Murnan faced but dismissed concerns.
“This evening, the Board of Education approved the hiring of Dr. Shane Murnan for the Head Principal position at John Glenn Elementary,” the district announced. “Recently, the district has been made aware of previous charges that were dismissed more than 20 years ago. Dr. Murnan has been serving the field of education for more than 25 years and has an outstanding reputation.”
The district added, “We welcome Dr. Murnan to Western Heights, and we are very excited about his vision for John Glenn and the community. #SoaringToNewHeights”
The Oklahoma State Superintendent of Public Instruction expressed his concerns regarding he district’s decision, and told Fox News that he believes liberal indoctrination in schools exists to “break down the family.”
“I think that the left has absolutely an agenda for our kids, that they are at war with our kids in the classroom,” he said. “What they are doing is injecting this ideology for an end goal here. Their end goal is to absolutely break down a child’s mind, break down the classroom, break down the family, and you see the results that have come from this. They want kids to turn on their parents and only listen to their leftist ideology.”
