This past weekend New York City held its annual Pride events. The “Dyke March” held on Saturday, hosted a topless dance party in Washington Square Park where many children were present. Signs such as “Pride is for kids too” were held in Sunday’s Pride March, as adults marched alongside children they labeled as “queer and trans youth.”

The “Dyke March” which took place on Saturday was not a parade, but a “protest” according to the organizers’ website, where, “thousands of Dykes take the streets each year in celebration of our beautiful and diverse Dyke lives, to highlight the presence of Dykes within our community, and in protest of the discrimination, harassment, and violence.”

The protest ended in Washington Square Park and quickly devolved into debauchery as many of the women began stripping their clothes to enter the Washington Square Fountain.

Hundreds of women began dancing naked in the fountain surrounded by several children who also wanted to play in the water.

Individuals involved were kissing, acting in a sexually suggestive manner, dancing, and playing in the water as children looked on. Minors were seen holding onto floating devices that were supposed to be shaped like women’s genitalia, according to the women who brought them.

Protesters also held signs in defiance of Roe v. Wade being overturned, despite abortion being legal in New York, and chanted phrases calling themselves proud “sluts” and “dykes” amongst other colorful terminologies.

While many LGBTQ community members and feminists tried to deny the presence of children at this festival and deemed these actions the same as “women going to the beach,” the majority of America was left in shock at the state of New York and what was exposed to children this past weekend.

Sunday was New York’s main pride event, and children were not only watching the parade but also marching alongside many adults who espoused to be fighting for “trans kids.”

The Ackerman Institute, a mental health clinic based in New York, marched alongside multiple children holding a “Pride is for kids too” sign. The children waved pride flags as every adult in the crowd wore a shirt matching their sign. Then came the  “Girl Scouts of Greater New York” with their march led by multiple young girls holding pride flags. Next came the “Rainbow Hill Club” from the Clinton Hill Elementary School in Brooklyn. A group with several children draped in transgender pride flags, surrounded by adults chanting, “1, 2, 3, 4 open up the closet door, 5, 6, 7, 8 don’t assume your kids are straight!”

Throughout the pride parade, several scantily clad men in leather outfits, speedos, and “pup play” masks also marched. Furries, transgender-identifying men shaking their breasts at the crowd, and women showing off their double mastectomy scars were also a common sight. Every year more and more children are present at these events. During last year’s pride march in Washington D.C., children marched, however, a new sight this year is the multiple groups specifically targeting children.
