Notre Dame to Require COVID-19 Vaccine. Are They “Following the Science?”

The University of Notre Dame has recently joined the growing list of schools that will require all students (undergraduate, graduate and professional) returning to campus in the fall of 2021 to be vaccinated against COVID-19.

While documented and approved “religious and medical exemptions” will be permitted, it appears ideological-based reasons for choosing not to be vaccinated will not be tolerated should students desire to return to campus.

Notre Dame is joining Rutgers, Cornell, Brown, and a handful of other universities to be among the first to announce the vaccine requirement for all students.

Let’s break this down and crunch some numbers–because the reality is, this mandate is absolutely absurd and is certainly not “following the science.”

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) shares on their website that to date, there have been 1,996 deaths from COVID-19 for adults in the United States aged 18-29. 545 of those have been during 2021, and to date, there have been 5,402,746 cases in that same age group (22.4% of total cases). That’s a mortality rate of 0.000369%–meaning 0.03 out of every 100 people have died from COVID-19 in the age group of college students, 18-29 year-olds.

Now, let’s take a look at the vaccine–116,386,090 people in America over the age of 18 have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. The rate of adverse reactions to the vaccine, ranging from mild pain/swelling to death–is alarmingly high.

While studying the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine results, researchers have found 88.7% of vaccine recipients aged 18 to 55 years reported at least one local injection site reaction, which includes severe pain, swelling, and redness.

82.8% of vaccine recipients aged 18 to 55 years reported at least one systemic reaction–anything from fatigue and headache to new or worsened muscle pain, fever, diarrhea, vomiting, etc.

0.6% of all Pfizer vaccine recipients experienced “serious adverse events,” defined as “any untoward medical occurrence that resulted in death, was life-threatening, required inpatient hospitalization or prolongation of existing hospitalization, or resulted in persistent disability/incapacity.” The conditions reported have included appendicitis and myocardial infarction (heart attack).

So, what does all of this mean? 0.6% of people who receive the Pfizer vaccine are at risk for death, while 0.000369% of 18-29 year-olds are at risk for dying from COVID-19. You are literally 1,626 times more likely to die from the Pfizer vaccine as a young adult in America than you are to die from contracting COVID-19.

Notre Dame, Cornell, Rutgers, and Brown’s decision to require college students to be vaccinated is not “following the science”–it’s endorsing a political agenda that makes everyone feel good without actually doing much good.

What do you think about Notre Dame and other universities mandating the COVID-19 vaccine to go back to school? Would that impact your decision to attend a certain school? Let us know in the comments!👇
