The author of a book about a transgender child is speaking out about parental efforts to restrict his book in classrooms, saying that “parental rights” anger him.

Alex Gino is the nonbinary author of the book “Melissa,” a novel that follows the life of a fourth-grader named George who chooses to identify as a girl named Melissa. The book, which echoes support for transgenderism among minors, has faced bans in multiple school districts across four different states.

In a recent interview with Yahoo News, Gino expressed strong sentiment against what he referred to as “parental rights.” Gino’s perspective aligns with that of many activists advocating for transgender-identifying children, emphasizing that children should have rights as much as their parents do.

“Parental rights really anger me, because what about human rights? People who are under 18 are human,” Gino said to Yahoo News. “And if you are keeping information about the world from young people, you are leaving them less prepared to learn how to be in the world.”

Gino went on to elaborate that he believes children have a better grasp of the world than adults do.

“Adults are not great at knowing what’s in the world. Kids are great at it. Kids are constantly learning what’s in the world and taking on new ideas. They learn who’s in the world, they learn how people are in the world,” Gino stated.

Gino also added that he intends to continue writing books about transgender-identifying children.

Over the last year, there has been a growing push by parents to remove inappropriate material from their children’s classrooms. School board meetings across the country have seen parents speak out against radical gender ideology, critical race theory, and blatant pornography. Gino’s comments regarding parents and children prove that his writing should be nowhere near a classroom.

“I’m convinced that the work by Turning Point USA and Charlie Kirk will win back the future of America.”
