Non-Binary Nuclear Official in Biden Administration Charged with Felony Theft

Sam Brinton, the non-binary nuclear official in the Biden Administration, is facing charges of felony theft for stealing a woman’s luggage at the Minneapolis airport. Brinton has been charged with felony theft of a movable property without consent and can face a sentence of up to five years in jail or a $10,000 fine or both.
Security cameras at the Minneapolis airport show Brinton stealing a woman’s bag from baggage claim. Brinton originally claimed he did not steal the luggage, but later changed his statement and admitted to taking the suitcase from baggage claim. It is reported that the luggage was worth over $2,300.
Daily Mail reports that “video that has not been released to the public sees Brinton ‘removing the blue bag’s tag and putting the bag tag in the handbag they were carrying,’ and ‘leaving the area at a quick pace,’ the complaint details.”
Originally when police confronted Brinton, he denied all accusations of stealing another bag stating, “if I had taken the wrong bag, I am happy to return it, but I don’t have clothes for another individual” to the police. He later called the airport to come clean and report that he did “mistakenly” take the bag and said that he was “nervous” of what others may say. In October, the bag and clothing was still not returned. It was later reported that Brinton was seen using the stolen Vera Bradley suitcase on at least two occasions, while traveling to Washington, DC on Sept. 18 and Oct. 9.
Brinton is the deputy assistant secretary of Spent Fuel and Waste Disposition in the Office of Nuclear Energy. Brinton identifies as non-binary and uses they/them pronouns. His appointment sparked discussion due to him being the first “gender-fluid person” in a leadership position in the federal government. Prior to his appointment, Brinton had a history of performing as a drag queen and engaging in “pup play.”
