Fun fact: New Zealand was gifted Rocky Mountain Elk in 1905 by Teddy Roosevelt. The idea of this gift was to satisfy both hunters and conservationists.
Unknowingly at the time, this started a battle between the hunters and the conservationists. Hunters believe that the population of deer in New Zealand can be managed but conservationists of the land think that any type of deer is a threat to native forests.
