New York State Education Department Releases Radical Guidance for ‘Transgender’ Students

NY State Education Department “Creating a Safe, Supportive, and Affirming School Environment for Transgender and Gender Expansive Students: 2023 Legal Update and Best Practices”

The New York State Education Department released updated guidance for public school students identifying as transgender or gender expansive that echoes the radical recommendations made by progressive teachers’ unions.

The Education Department’s “best practices” for transgender students mirror recommendations made by the National Education Association (NEA) which is effectively a well-funded political activist group that donates millions to progressive causes each year.

The directive begins by introducing the concept of “transgender and gender expansive (TGE)” students and asserting that “Gender identity is a mental, emotional, and spiritual state that is not determined by a person’s anatomy.” The 42-page document then comprises a laundry list of terms such as “agender,” “gender expansive,” “nonbinary,” and “gender nonconforming (GNC)” which are four coined terms to describe the same phenomenon of not liking to be referred to as male or female.

It also describes the differences between an “affirmed name,” versus an “assigned name,” and uses progressive-approved phrases like “sex assigned at birth” rather than simply stating a person’s biological reality.

The education department also states that “Only the student knows whether it is safe to share their identity with caregivers,” and uses that assumption to advise school administrators to deliberately hide information from parents and legal guardians.

The document also insists that school administrators use the preferred name and pronouns requested by students or staff, and provides examples of how to use “gender neutral” pronouns like “they/them” and “hir/zir.”

“Ze is speaking. I listened to hir. The backpack is zirs,” the example reads.

“Students are not required to obtain parental/guardian consent or a court-ordered name and/or gender change before being addressed by their affirmed name and pronouns,” the education department directive states.

The document also directs school staff to allow transgender-identifying students to use the restroom or locker room facility which matches their gender identity, not their biological sex. “TGE students are entitled under Title IX and the NYS Human Rights Law to use the restroom that aligns with their gender identity.”

According to the state’s directive, single-stall restrooms or changing rooms “may be made available to students who request them but should never be forced upon students or presented as the only option.” The document continues, “Under [Gender Expression Non-Discrimination Act] schools may not ask a TGE person to use a single-stall restroom because of someone else’s concern.”

This policy has been implemented in several public schools that prioritize the appetites of transgender-identifying students above that of the females or males who would like privacy in intimate spaces.

The guidance also encourages physical education teachers to phase out all sex-segregated sports because such activities “marginalize TGE students and mark them as ‘others.'”

The NEA’s guidance from 2015 states that “The expression of transgender identity, or any other form of gender-expansive behavior, is a healthy, appropriate and typical aspect of human development.”

Regarding gender transitions, the NEA states “While a public transition might make others (including you) feel uncomfortable, that discomfort does not outweigh the student’s need to be safe and supported,” reasserting the need for school staff to “affirm” a child’s perceived identity.

Both documents use the terms “cisgender” and “cisnormative” to refer to individuals who identify with their biological sex but are often “allies” to the transgender community. The two terms have recently been characterized as slurs by popular social media giant Twitter, and are suppressed on the platform.

New York State Education Department defines “cisnormative” as the “assumption that everyone is cisgender and that being cisgender is superior to being gender expansive. This includes the often implicitly held idea that being cisgender is the norm and that other genders are ‘different’ or ‘abnormal.’

The term “cisgender” was first published by German sexologist Volkmar Sigusch, who had distorted views on human sexuality, including how society views and treats pedophiles. Progressives now echo his claims, asserting that pedophiles should be referred to as “MAPs” or “minor-attracted persons” or “YAPs” which stands for “youth-attracted persons” to reduce stigma.

Gender theory, which was developed by several similarly pedophilic psychologists and sexologists around the world, is now public school policy and is taught in classrooms as fact despite a total lack of scientific and biological evidence. Minors do not need to be introduced to concepts that have severe consequences they cannot consent to.

“Turning Point USA is the fastest-growing youth movement in America, and they have a potential to play a decisive role in shaping our country for decades to come.”
