A Turning Point USA chapter at the College of Staten Island was established last fall in the aftermath of Charlie Kirk’s assassination.

According to Staten Island Live, the chapter’s presence is receiving pushback from the leader of the 61st Assembly District of New York, Jasmine Robinson. She is accusing TPUSA of being too “partisan.”

“I am very concerned about Turning Point USA having a chapter here on Staten Island,” the district leader told Staten Island Live on Monday. “The basis that they have in the chapter is to promote nonpartisan dialogue, support American pride—patriotism. But when I see that in the lens of being a Black and Cuban woman, I see it not supporting American values. I don’t see it being fair and nonpartisan. I see that it’s very partisan, very slanted, very one-sided.”

Robinson is also concerned with the allegedly divisive influence that she claims TPUSA may bring to the borough.

“I’m very concerned about that, we don’t need any more division on this Island. We don’t need any outside influence to come here and pour gasoline on the tense climate out here on Staten Island,” she stated.

According to Staten Island Live, a spokesperson for the college defended the status of TPUSA as a rightful student organization “governed by the same policies that apply to all student clubs and organizations.”

“No safety concerns or complaints have come up since its establishment,” the spokesperson stated of the chapter. “Student clubs at CSI reflect a variety of interests. The College supports free expression and expects all organizations to maintain a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment.”
