A University of New Hampshire professor is facing backlash after falsely claiming Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk promoted “white supremacy” just one day after his tragic death.

Chanda Prescod-Weinstein, an associate professor of physics and astronomy and a core faculty member in women’s studies at UNH, made the comments on the social media platform Bluesky on September 11. Her remarks came in response to a New York Times opinion column by Ezra Klein titled “Charlie Kirk Was Practicing Politics the Right Way.” In the piece, Klein praised Kirk for engaging in dialogue with people who held opposing political views.

“Ezra Klein isn’t theorizing Charlie Kirk. He is theorizing politics. And he is saying that Charlie Kirk’s brand of white supremacy was a good way of doing politics,” Prescod-Weinstein wrote. “I hope you all recognize now that Ezra is a total f***ing ghoul.”

“See the other thing about working for the New York Times is that means not having a real editor who will say ‘are you sure you wanna do that?’ And actually, editors are good,” she continued in a follow-up post. “Anyway, Ezra Klein now on record saying one of the 21st century’s most ardent white supremacists did politics the right way.”

Prescod-Weinstein, who has a history of posting anti-conservative content on Bluesky, previously organized a “#StrikeforBlackLives” event in 2020 alongside a University of Chicago professor following the death of George Floyd. According to Fox News, the initiative encouraged scientists worldwide to halt research and cancel classes to “fight against racism.”

“This is not about identifying with a minority or marginalized group or diversity and inclusion,” she wrote in a letter regarding the strike. “This moment is about Black people and the conditions under which we live and work. It is about how white supremacy pervades my professional spaces as well as my life outside of them.”
