Nevada Senator Faces Backlash for not Paying Taxes on Time

A millionaire Senator paid her property taxes late twice, despite advocating for an increase in taxes on the wealthy to fund public schools, according to a report from the Washington Free Beacon.
Senator Jacky Rosen has been late to pay the property taxes on her $1 million home twice since she was elected in 2017. Per the Free Beacon, Rosen was 32 days late paying $1,074 in property taxes due in March 2018 and 38 days late paying $2,279 in property taxes in January 2020.
Rosen is running for re-election on the policy position that public schools will obtain more funding by raising taxes on wealthy Americans. Public schools in Henderson, Nevada — where the Congresswoman lives — may be underfunded because of Rosen’s delinquency, as the system relies on property taxes.
It’s unclear why Rosen was unable to make these tax payments in a timely manner. Her husband is a radiologist and their 2022 financial disclosure forms show they own assets worth up to $18.5 million.
A spokesperson with Rosen’s campaign told the Free Beacon that the couple has “paid all the property taxes on their home and remain up to date with the payments.
Rosen’s reported delinquency comes as she vies for re-election in her home district. Polling conducted by FiveThirtyEight shows Rosen was a slight lead over her likely opponent Sam Brown. Rosen is up just one point in a Change Research poll conducted in December and up five points in a Tarrance Group poll conducted in October.
Ironically, the Senator supported legislation during her tenure that raises taxes on Americans through an increase in IRS agents. Rosen voted in favor of the “Inflation Reduction Act,” which hired a litany of IRS agents to assist in bringing $20 billion in revenue via tax enforcement. The target of these IRS agents includes those who make under $400,000 per year.
