The NAACP has issued a travel advisory for the entire state of Florida, claiming the state is “hostile” towards black Americans.

Over the weekend, the NAACP released a statement on their website calling for a “travel advisory” for the entire state of Florida. The civil rights organization claims that the state, under its current leadership, is attempting to “erase black history” and “restrict diversity, equity, and inclusion programs in Florida schools.”

“Florida is openly hostile toward African Americans, people of color and LGBTQ+ individuals. Before traveling to Florida, please understand that the state of Florida devalues and marginalizes the contributions of, and the challenges faced by African Americans and other communities of color.”

NAACP’s Official Travel Advisory to Florida

The NAACP’s advisory was issued in response to several pieces of legislation recently passed in the state of Florida. The “Stop Woke Act,” signed into law by Governor Ron DeSantis, aims to prevent schools from teaching students that one race is more “inherently racist, sexist, or oppressive” than another. But left-wing activist groups have spun the narrative surrounding this legislation to make Americans think Florida is preventing black history and the history of the civil rights movement from being taught in schools.

“This is part of the reason why our country, it goes through all these —  we get involved in these stupid fights. This is a stunt to try to do that, a pure stunt, and fine, if you want to waste your time on a stunt, that’s fine. But I’m not wasting my time on your stunts,”

Governor Ron DeSantis’ response to the NAACP

Florida has also rejected a proposal to require an AP African American studies class for high school students in the state. The Governor argued that courses such as this stray too far from factual, documented history and become propaganda for the political agenda of the left.

The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), a prominent Latino advocacy group, is also urging Americans to avoid traveling to the Sunshine State due to their recent laws regarding immigration. LULAC President Domingo Garcia is describing Florida’s immigration laws as “hostile and dangerous.”

It’s no shock that once-prominent activist groups that made huge strides during the civil rights movement are now being used as political arms by the left. The NAACP has a long history of advancing and protecting the rights of black Americans. But now, they are engaging in petty politics and choosing to attack certain individuals for partisan reasons.
