MSNBC has announced the cancellation of “The ReidOut,” hosted by Joy Reid, following a decline in ratings for the primetime news program. Reid’s final episode is scheduled for the last week of February, and reports indicate she will depart the network entirely.

“Joy Reid is leaving the network and we thank her for her countless contributions over the years,” said MSNBC president Rebecca Kutler. ”Her work has been recognized with several esteemed honors, including most recently, the 2025 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding News Series.”

Kutler stated that rotating anchors will fill the 7 pm ET time slot in the coming weeks. MSNBC’s current “The Weekend” hosts—Symone Sanders Townsend, Michael Steele, and Alicia Menendez—will move to weekdays at 7 pm for a new program.

The cancellation follows leadership changes at MSNBC, as Kutler was officially named president of the network on February 12. Previously serving as interim president, she was promoted by SpinCo CEO Mark Lazarus, who credited her with the ability to move the network forward.

“In the short time that Rebecca was the interim president, it became clear to me that she has the big-picture strategic view and the right leadership skills to ensure MSNBC delivers on its brand promise and is positioned for growth during a time of industry change,” Lazarus said at the time.

Reid addressed the decision in a post on the left-wing social media platform Bluesky.

“I just want to say thank you to everyone who has reached out with kindness and encouragement, both personally and in these social media streets,” Reid wrote. “So very proud of The Reidout @joy.msnbc.com team, who are truly family, and all of our supporters & friends. See you tomorrow night at 7, one more time.”

MSNBC has struggled with ratings since President Donald Trump’s victory in the 2024 election. According to the Daily Mail, the network recorded its lowest-rated January in history among the 25-45 age demographic last month. Last month, MSNBC averaged 506,000 total daily viewers, significantly trailing Fox News, which averaged 1.9 million.
