German-American actress, Diane Kruger is famous for playing Helen of Troy and appearing in several well-known films including Inglorious Bastards and National Treasure. Now, she’s giving bad advice to young women who may be on the fence about becoming a mother.
In a recent interview with the Sunday Telegraph, 45-year-old Kruger patted herself on the back for having a daughter at 42 with actor fiancé, Norman Reedus. She further stated that she was glad not to have a child “at 30” and she would have “absolutely resented it for all the things that you have to give up, because today I am happy to do so.”
In the same interview, Kruger bragged about having traveled the world and attending parties. What she didn’t discuss was that almost 50% of women over 40 years old have fertility issues and that at 42, a woman only has a 24% chance of becoming pregnant.
For a wealthy, famous, connected celebrity like Diane Kruger, these numbers are meaningless. She has unlimited financial resources and access to the best fertility specialists in the world. It’s easy for her to glamorize motherhood at a late age.
Plainly put, Diane Kruger is irresponsible and out of touch. While she had the luxury of time and the ability to travel and party, the rest of us probably do not. Whether she likes it or not, she is seen as a role model. She almost makes it seem easy to wait to have children when it clearly is not. While parties, travel, and celebrity status are fun, it’s far more fulfilling to have a family. Please don’t let a celebrity convince you otherwise.
