Mindy Kaling’s ‘Velma’ Rated Worst Animated TV Series in History on IMDB

The new animated series Velma, a spin-off of the fan-favorite cartoon Scooby Doo, is now rated on IMDB as the worst animated television show of all time. The show currently has an IMDb rating of 1.3/10, and an audience score on Rotten Tomatoes of only 6%. The trailer posted on HBO’s Youtube channel had its comments turned off so criticism could not be stated.

Before the show was even released, social media began to heavily criticize the show for race-swapping nearly all of the iconic characters from Scooby-Doo. Velma became a bisexual South Asian American, Daphne, previously portrayed as a white female with strawberry blonde hair, became Asian as well, and Shaggy became black man named “Norville.” The only character who will remain the same in the new series is Fred, who is relentlessly ridiculed for his “white privilege” throughout the show.

The creation of the Velma series serves the purpose of giving writer Mindy Kaling an outlet for her to complain about everything she hates. Characters in the show continually make racist remarks towards Fred for his whiteness. In the scene below, Velma accuses Fred of murder because he is a “rich, white dude” who would murder anybody “just to get away with it.”

There is also a scene where Fred is criticized by Velma for being so privileged that he “can’t even feed himself.” The scene shows Fred not knowing how to cut a steak and eat it while everyone around him laughs. Obviously, throughout the show Fred is supposed to symbolize the dreadful, evil, white-male privilege.

Hollywood Forgoes Talent and Creativity for Liberal Propaganda

Velma has completely abandoned the family-orientated style that Scooby-Doo had for over fifty years, in yet another attempt from brands to sell nostalgia instead to Millennials of exceptional content. Velma is now a bisexual who has a crush on Daphne, and the show has constant crude humor such as Velma making fun of Fred for being “a rich guy with a tiny dong.”

The lack of entertainment from the series has caused severe backlash on social media from both the right and the left. The Atlantic ran an article titled “Velma isn’t edgy. It’s just mean.” This is completely true. The show’s insults and virtue signaling is not intended to be funny or entertaining. Instead, it’s a way for Kaling to vent about race relations and other political issues on her mind. This is the direction Hollywood is going with most of their movies and television shows, and audiences are losing their patience.

“I want to congratulate Turning Point because you’re creating a change that will affect us for decades.”
