A significant majority of parents across the United States oppose the teaching of transgender ideology and related topics in schools, according to a recent poll conducted by Parents Defending Education (PDE) and reported by The Daily Wire.
The survey of 1,000 parents with children under 18 revealed that 75 percent oppose teachers addressing sexual orientation and gender identity with elementary school-aged children. A majority also expressed concerns about schools pushing transgender ideology without parental consent.
“This poll shows overwhelming opposition to school personnel withholding information from parents about their child’s gender identity at school,” said PDE Director of Outreach Erika Sanzi, per the Daily Wire. “It’s refreshing to see even more confirmation that people think this ubiquitous trend of facilitating gender transitions behind the backs of parents is complete madness and needs to stop.”
The poll also revealed that 80 percent of parents believe schools should not assist children in changing their gender identity without parental consent, and 75 percent support legislation requiring schools to inform parents if a child expresses a desire to identify as the opposite sex.
Additionally, 60 percent of parents said they disagree with policies, such as one recently implemented in Wisconsin, that assert parents do not have a right to know their child’s gender identity at school.
“This matters because the policies propagated by activist groups, the National School Boards Association, and teachers’ unions all allow for — and often require — the deliberate deception of parents by school staff if that is what the minor child wants,” Sanzi added.
Parents also voiced strong opposition to allowing biological males who identify as females to participate in girls’ sports, with nearly 80 percent opposing such policies. Furthermore, 77 percent of respondents rejected permitting biological males to use female bathrooms and locker rooms.
