Major League Baseball Relocates All-Star Game to State With Stricter Voting Laws and Few Minorities
On March 25th, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp signed a new voting bill. The legislation adds voter identification requirements, regulates voting by mail, limits ballot drop boxes, mandates additional early Saturday and leaves two Sundays open for optional voting. Since the left calls everything from highways to syrup racist, it’s not shocking that they find this legislation to be racist. The woke leftists within Major League Baseball decided to jump on the cancel culture bandwagon. They too found this legislation to be “racist” and “oppressive.” So, they announced that they will move their 2021 MLB All-Star game from the Atlanta Brave’s home ballpark. This decision is short-sighted and hypocritical.
The next logical question is where do they go? Well, clearly they can’t go to a red state like Florida even though that is where almost all of the major sporting events like the college football national championship, Super Bowl and more have taken place. That would be even MORE racist. So, they have to go to a blue state. Blue states have more severe Covid restrictions than Georgia, so they will be limiting fans, reducing ticket sales, hurting concessions and ultimately impacting their bottom line. Additionally, if they go to a state like New York they must realize the voting hypocrisy. New York provides even fewer opportunities to vote than Georgia. Therefore, by this logic, New York is MORE racist. Thus, this race argument doesn’t really work, now does it?
What else doesn’t work–calling ID requirements racist. If ID is racist, why do ALL stadiums require an ID when you buy alcohol? Why are stadiums, such as METS stadium requiring VACCINE IDs? Why do you need an ID when you pick up tickets at Will Call?
So what does MLB do, now? They announced this morning the game has been relocated to COLORADO. A state with arguably more restrictive voting laws and incredibly less minorities. None of this makes sense.
The argument that MLB cares about minorities is a lie. Relocating the All-Star Game will cost the Atlanta area, which is majority black, a reported $100 million. Additionally, did the MLB consult with their minority players prior to deciding to move the All-Star Game? No. Did the MLB appoint their FIRST ever minority baseball commission to combat racism? Of course not!
The whole situation smacks of hypocrisy and virtue signaling. This is not about a concern for minority rights; it’s about pandering to minorities. Don’t be fooled by the fastball. This is really a huge strikeout.
