Los Angeles Dodgers Invite Anti-Catholic LGBTQ Group to Stadium, Uninvited them After Backlash

After severe backlash from Christian groups, the Los Angeles Dodgers have uninvited an LGBT group with a history of mocking Christianity from the team’s “pride night.”
The Dodgers are scheduled to host their 10th annual LGBTQ+ Pride Night at Dodger Stadium on June 16th. To celebrate this event, the team invited a number of LGBT activist groups, including the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence (a group referred also referred to as the “trans nuns”). After announcing this invitation, many Christian groups pointed to this organization’s history of mocking Christianity and Catholicism. The team faced heavy backlash from Christian fans, and ultimately decided to not allow the group to attend their pride night.
“This year, as part of a full night of programming, we invited a number of groups to join us. We are now aware that our inclusion of one group in particular — The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence — in this year’s Pride Night has been the source of some controversy.”
“Given the strong feelings of people who have been offended by the sisters’ inclusion in our evening, and in an effort not to distract from the great benefits that we’ve seen over the years of Pride Night, we are deciding to remove them from this year’s group of honorees.”
The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence were created in 1979 and are most commonly known for attending protests dressed in nun costumes and drag. The group’s motto “Go and sin some more” is a parody of Jesus’ commandment to “Go and sin no more.” The group also hosts an ‘Easter’ ceremony that mocks Jesus and Mary.
Senator Marco Rubio, a practicing Catholic, weighed in on this group’s attendance when it was first announced. The senator sent a letter to Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred’s office, asking the commissioner whether or not the league is “inclusive and welcoming” towards its Christian fans.
“Do you believe that the Los Angeles Dodgers are being ‘inclusive and welcoming to everyone’ by giving an award to a group of gay and transgender drag performers that intentionally mocks and degrades Christians—and not only Christians, but nuns, who devote their lives to serving others?”
The Dodgers have stated that their LGBTQ+ night is intended to “foster an atmosphere of acceptance for all.” But many Christians have pointed out that there is nothing inclusive nor welcoming about platforming a group whose purpose is to spread hate against religious beliefs. The Dodgers made the right decision by listening to its Christian fans, although no such group should have been invited to their stadium in the first place.
