Texas’ strictest abortion ban took effect with Senate Bill 8 (SB8), opening the door to whether the 1972 decision in Roe vs. Wade will eventually be overturned. The new law will ban most abortions after 6 weeks of pregnancy.
SB8 also authorizes individuals to sue anyone who helps a woman obtain abortion services up to $10,000.00 per instance, which critics argue is comparable to a “bounty” as such.
Those against the passing of SB8 express that the law is unconstitutional, racist, economic catastrophe, dangerous and a full-scale assault on patients, health care providers, and support systems.
There are a total of 13 states who have passed strict abortion laws banning abortions in the first trimester of pregnancy, although none have taken effect due to legal challenges.
These strides made by Texas and the highest court in the land are among the biggest reasons I am proud to be a TEXAN! Furthermore, I would like to thank President Trump for doing such a great job appointing judges that value the sanctity of human life, especially those that he nominated to the Supreme court.
