The Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty (WILL) has released a set of templates aimed at helping parents, school administrators, and school boards ensure compliance with a recent Supreme Court ruling affirming parental rights.
The decision, Mahmoud v. Taylor, upheld that parents have the right to opt their children out of lessons that contradict their beliefs. According to a report by The Daily Caller, WILL is providing model policies and forms that enable parents to more easily notify schools if they do not want their children participating in lessons involving controversial topics such as gender ideology, critical race theory, or sex education.
“As students head back to school, our new model policy and resources will empower parents to stand up for their rights and will equip school leaders to comply with new Supreme Court precedent,” said Cory Brewer, WILL’s education counsel, in a press release. “Parents, not government officials, have the fundamental right to direct the upbringing and education of their children, and that principle must be upheld in every school.”
WILL’s resources include a template for teachers to notify parents about upcoming lessons that may be considered controversial. The organization is encouraging school boards to formally adopt the model policy to ensure schools are respecting parental rights and adhering to the Supreme Court’s decision.
The move comes amid broader efforts by the Trump administration to combat radical left-wing ideology in public education. The federal government has taken steps to discipline schools that fail to comply with federal positions on issues such as biological sex.
