You’ve probably heard about quiet quitting by now, so let me introduce you to the latest trend: Bare Minimum Monday.

The concept of Bare Minimum Monday is that employees should ease into the workweek after the weekend. Instead of starting right off the bat at 9:00 AM working as hard you can, you should instead reduce your stress and anxiety by working slowly.

Employees partake in self-care rituals prior to starting the workday. This includes no electronics before 10:00 AM, lunch at 11:00 AM, then putting forth as little effort possible to be productive afterwards.

It would be interesting to see how many of these Bare Minimum Monday employees work at home versus work in an office. I feel like the majority will be those who work at home and do not have to worry about sitting in a professional environment. There is obviously less accountability for work at home employees.

Many would argue that decompressing from the weekend and preparing for Monday is what Sunday evening is for. But for the new generation, Sunday is still part of the weekend, and Monday morning works just fine for preparing for the work week ahead. It’s also part of a growing trend where GenZ looks at their employer as if they are an enemy instead of an opportunity.

I know it is difficult for me to psych myself up for the work week because I also work from home, but I just don’t see this working out in the normal work space. What are your thoughts on bare minimum Mondays? What do you think keeps this generation motivated to go above and beyond?
