Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas is rightly concerned about the future of American institutions after the egregious leak of a draft opinion that is likely to overturn Roe V. Wade, returning abortion legislation back to the states.
In a speech to a conservative conference over the weekend in Dallas, Justice Thomas had some sobering and chilling words in response to the leak. Speaking at the Old Parkland Conference for Black Conservatives, he said:
“I wonder how long we’re going to have these institutions at the rate we’re undermining them, and then I wonder when they’re gone or destabilized what we will have as a country. And I don’t think the prospects are good if we continue to lose them. When you lose that trust, especially in the institution that I’m in, it changes the institution fundamentally. You begin to look over your shoulder. It’s kind of like infidelity in that you can explain it, but you can’t undo it.”
Justice Thomas is absolutely correct, and his chilling words undercut the erosion of norms we’re seeing as a social-justice obsessed Left tramples over American cultural mores with staggering speed. We’re not dealing with old-school Liberals here: we’re dealing with Leftists who have no respect for the institutions they’re ready and willing to burn down when things don’t go their way.
The only question that remains is, is there any institution that the Left will NOT destroy to get what its adherents demand?
