It’s Spooky Season: BEWARE of These Toxins When Creating Your Home’s Autumn Aesthetic

October brings falling leaves, warm sweaters, tasty pumpkin spice treats, fun and spooky season activities, and deliciously scented candles!
But what if I told you that Halloween wasn’t the only spooky thing about October?

What if I told you a beloved, everyday item in your home is poisoning you, your loved ones and your future children? That’s much scarier than any Halloween movie.
This isn’t some Hollywood horror scenario, this is a real crisis every single American is facing: synthetic estrogen.
You may immediately think of the synthetic estrogen found in hormonal birth control, or maybe “gender affirming” medications, but that isn’t the end of it. It turns out, there is a slew of ways this endocrine-disrupting component in products is harming us on a daily basis, including products that we believe are making our homes a comforting and cozy around the holidays.
It turns out synthetic estrogen is all around us, including in everyday plastic products and especially in artificial fragrances. This means any candles in your home that contains an artificial fragrance also contains synthetic estrogen.
(That goes for your perfumes too, ladies and gentlemen, so please reconsider your product choices in that department as well.)
But why is this bad? What does synthetic estrogen do to the body?
Well, imagine a pregnant women, carrying a baby boy through crucial stages of his development, what could happen while the mom is breathing in extra doses of estrogen? The boy will become more feminine, with higher emotional tendencies, and can even increase the risk of ADHD, Autism, and other physical and mental problems throughout early childhood and into adulthood.
Now imagine what would happen to a young girl growing in the womb, or living in a home surrounded by extra estrogen. She will be overloaded with estrogen, and it will lead to things like early puberty known as “precocious puberty.” There are many problems that can arise from early puberty, including psychological issues such as depression and mood swings. It’s no wonder we are seeing a high number of girls starting puberty and getting their periods at historically early ages, even before they become teens.
If you have used synthetic fragrances like sprays, candles, or air fresheners, and don’t want to give up the sweet smells, three are still options that will keep you and your family healthy!
What Can Replace Cozy Candles?
- One simple and immediate swap you can make in your life this October for the sake of everyone in your home’s health is to replace your candles filled with artificial fragrance (and therefore, synthetic estrogen) and instead boil and then simmer a pot of sliced apples, water, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves on the stove.
- When we transition into Christmas season, I suggest adding some cranberries to that mixture, or a second option is to mix cinnamon, orange slices, and mint.
- If you still want the warm glow of a candle in your home, seek out a more natural candle option made with beeswax and natural fragrance.
I hope you find this information helpful for you and your family, I am looking forward to trying out some new fragrance options this fall in my home right alongside you!
