Iranian National Illegally Crossing Border Jumped 150%
One hundred and twenty-four Iranian nationals who illegally crossed the southern border were arrested by Border Patrol in the last month alone, according to a Department of Homeland Security report reviewed by Breitbart.
The border saw a 150% increase in apprehensions of Iranian nationals in comparison to the rate of apprehension in October 2023. Fifty Iranian migrants were apprehended in multiple sectors across the border.
The uptick in Iranian migrants comes as the former president faced several threats on his life following the death of Iranian Major General Qasem Soleimani.
Sources speaking with Breitbart claim the spike in Iranian nationals is concerning to Border Patrol as most will be released to pursue asylum claims. Individuals who claim asylum — even baselessly — are allowed to board domestic flights anywhere within the United States.
“There is only so long we can hold them if we can’t come up with any tangible evidence that they pose a threat. Most claim to be citizens tired of the Iranian regime,” a Border Patrol insider told Breitbart. “Our fear is that those who pose the most danger are using this group to blend in with and will ultimately harm Americans.”
Over the past three years, the United States has seen a significant increase in the number of Special Interest Aliens — individuals who, based on an analysis of their travel patterns, potentially pose a national security risk to the United States or its interests.
According to a Congressional report, over half a million Special Interest Aliens have been encountered at the border since October 2021. The list of special countries includes Afghanistan, Cuba, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Nigeria, Syria, and Turkey. Newly designated countries include China, North Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Mauritania, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Venezuela.
Special Interest Aliens are just a small dent in the nearly 11 million people who were encountered at the southern border between fiscal year 2021 and fiscal year 2024.
