Instacart Partners with Lizzo, Makes Singer Their Latest Spokesperson

Shopping online from the comfort of your own home can be a delight, but can also make it difficult to eat healthy on a daily basis. The app Instacart has tried to make this easier, combining healthy eating with ordering food online. But now when you open the home screen you see their new spokeswoman…Lizzo.
Lizzo is an extremely heavyset woman. She has had many interviews about her weight, claiming she is trying to promote “body positivity.” But to her, body positivity means accepting whatever your weight is regardless of health.
Granted, not everyone is a size two. It’s still important to realize that the leading cause of death in women is a heart attack. A major factor for heart attack is obesity, and roughly 40% of Americans are considered obese by the CDC. We cannot simply ignore these correlations and praise people for confidence. There are many amazing athletes and dietitians that would have excelled at this job with Instacart. Instead, they choose to celebrate the status quo and promote idleness. Marketing departments used to be criticized for promoting “unrealistic beauty standards.” They have now overcompensated by saying you should make no effort to make yourself more physically attractive.
Many Americans, particularly women, struggle with their weight. But instead of being encouraged to get in shape and be healthy, young women are being told that icons like Lizzo are role models. There is a narrative in our country’s culture, especially on the left, that a person should “live their truth” and be complacent with their life without any self-growth. This is a dangerous mindset, especially when it comes to physical health.
