A Venezuelan migrant was arrested and charged with sexually assaulting a woman on the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) campus.

Elivs Hernandez-Pernalete, who goes by the name Luis Guevara, was charged with the on-campus assault on March 16, according to FOX 32. He reportedly followed a UIC student, grabbed her from behind, and dragged her to a secluded location where he proceeded to assault and rob her.

Hernandez-Pernalete was accused of committing a nearly identical assault on another woman. The migrant reportedly followed a second woman off the train and assaulted her.

Hernandez-Pernalete has been charged with criminal sexual abuse, robbery, aggravated battery, and attempted robbery in both cases. The man is also reportedly accused of retail theft. Retail giant T.J. Maxx claims Hernandez-Pernalete stole approximately $136 in clothing from racks.

A Cook County judge denied pre-trial release of the migrant claiming that he has a “pattern of attacking victims from trains.”

The assault of American students at the hands of a migrant comes on the heels of the tragic death of Laken Riley, a 22-year-old woman who was murdered by an illegal immigrant.

The number of arrests of non-citizens with criminal convictions has skyrocketed since 2020.

In fiscal year 2020, the number of non-citizen arrests was 2,438. By 2021, that number had skyrocketed to 10,753, according to Customs and Border Protection data. In fiscal year 2023, that number hit 15,267. There have been 7,064 recorded non-citizen arrests in fiscal year 2024 alone.

Customs and Border Protection categorizes the data and shows a rising number of sexual offenses committed by non-citizens. In fiscal years 2017-2020, the numbers appear markedly lower than the 2021-2023 numbers.

The same goes for the number of homicides, burglary, robbery, larceny, theft, fraud, as well as assault, battery, and domestic violence.
