An illegal immigrant was charged with setting a trailer fire that killed a mother and her two children, police confirmed to the New York Post

Jose Carmen Cardona was arrested and charged with starting a fire on June 25 that resulted in the death of a 32-year-old woman named Lisbeth Gutierrez-Salazar and her two sons. Juan Gutierrez-Salazar was just 10 years old and his brother, Julian Cardona-Gutierrez, was just seven.

Police claim the illegal immigrant was in a relationship with the eldest victim. The suspect was reportedly running from authorities until he was picked up by the US Marshals Service.

Cardona is being charged with three murders, one attempted murder, and child endangerment. According to the San Joaquin Prosecutor’s Office, the District Attorney filed three special circumstances: multiple murders, arson, and torture.

Allegations of this level make Cardona eligible for the death penalty.

The illegal immigrant was reportedly deported three times before entering for a fourth and murdering three. Cardona’s origin country is unclear at the time, according to Fox News

The death of Gutierrez-Salazar and her two sons comes as the nation has noticed a spike in deaths at the hands of illegal immigrants. Notably, Georgia nursing student Laken Riley was murdered at the hands of an illegal immigrant with previous law force encounters.

An illegal immigrant from El Salvador was charged with assaulting and killing a young mother named Rachel Morin who was hiking on a Maryland trail. Morin was reportedly found naked and suffered severe trauma. Family members claim Morin’s “head had been smashed in with a rock.”
