ICE Sets Record with Arrest of 153 Noncitizen Sex Offenders in Baltimore over Last Fiscal Year

ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) in Baltimore, Maryland, have achieved a record number of arrests of noncitizen sex offenders in the last fiscal year, totaling 153. This milestone includes the recent arrest of a 36-year-old Honduran national convicted of rape in Maryland who had previously been deported.
Madai Gamaliel Amaya, who had previously entered the United States illegally, was arrested on August 29, marking the record-breaking number of illegal immigrant sex offenders apprehended in Maryland for the fiscal year.
“The apprehension of Madai Gamaliel Amaya underscores the amazing work that our ERO officers perform every day,” said ERO Executive Associate Director Daniel Bible in a statement. “This is a landmark arrest for ERO Baltimore, in that they secured a record 153 noncitizen sex offenders arrested in their area of operations during a single fiscal year, but more importantly, there are 153 victims who need not fear their predators because of ERO officers. This arrest also highlights the amazing enforcement actions performed by ERO officers across our great nation.”
Amaya’s criminal history dates back to 2009 when he was first arrested and charged with rape after entering the US illegally at an unknown date and location. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison, but after serving two and a half years, a judge suspended his sentence and ICE filed a detainer for his deportation.
Following his deportation, Amaya was caught re-entering the country illegally in 2016 and was sentenced to serve time in a federal prison in Oklahoma. After completing this sentence, he was deported again in 2018.
Despite his history, Amaya managed to re-enter the US once more at an unknown time, leading to his most recent arrest.
The record number of arrests in Baltimore is part of a broader effort to address concerns across the country about illegal immigrants involved in violent crimes, such as the recent cases of Jocelyn Nungaray and Laken Riley. Since the Biden administration has taken office, over 8.5 million illegal immigrants have crossed the southern border, according to a report from Texas Representative Chip Roy.
