I spoke at the Plymouth-Canton Board of Education to address some deeply disturbing stances and policies this board has promoted and enacted in recent months.
This district says in a policy that “Every student has the right to be addressed by a name and pronouns that correspond to the student’s gender identity… schools will allow such students to use a chosen name and gender pronouns that reflect their identity.”
Even more concerning, the policy states:
“It is recommended that school staff privately ask transgender or gender nonconforming students how they want to be addressed in class and in the school’s communication with the student’s parents or guardians.”
This allows district staff to bypass the authority of a student’s parents regarding their “chosen pronouns.”
To demonstrate the absurdity of the notion that “a kid can be what they want to be,” I told the board (hypothetically!):
“I’m a board member. Do I have a right to grab a a seat and just sit down right there in that empty seat right there? Can I go sit there?”
Of course I’m not a board member no matter how much I may think I’m one! Nor is a child a cat or any other animal no matter how convinced they are such animals.
Moreover, this board is blatantly promoting student abortion. The Plymouth-Canton Board of Education believes that students should be able to have abortions without the knowledge of their parents. In February, Plymouth-Canton Board rescinded “a policy that previously prohibited staff from referring students for abortions.” This prompted a great deal of concern from parents and even students in the Pymouth-Canton community.
The members of this board may think absolute truth comes from them as they vote on and enact these consequential policies from their powerful seats: but in fact, it does not, it comes from God. I pushed these board members to recognize the possible consequences of their actions, and how they may be ultimately judged for them.
