The US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is pulling $12 million of funding from California schools due to the presence of “gender ideology” in its sexual education programs. In June, the White House gave US schools a 60 day ultimatum of removing gender ideology and DEI-based curriculum from its curriculum.
Specifically, the HHS’s Administration for Children and Families (ACF) announced Thursday that it has “terminated California’s Personal Responsibility Education Program (PREP) grant after the state refused to remove radical gender ideology from the federally-funded education program to prevent teenage pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections in schoolchildren.”
The state’s PREP program has been of great concern to the HHS for its explicit gender and sexuality content, which was highlighted in the department’s initial ultimatum in June.
The HHS further condemned California’s PREP program in a Thursday press release, detailing problems within its content.
“In a disturbing and egregious abuse of federal funds, California has been using taxpayer money to teach curricula that could encourage kids to contemplate mutilating their genitals, ‘altering their body … through hormone therapy,’ ‘adding or removing breast tissue,’ and ‘changing their name.’ It instructed teachers to ‘remind students that some men are born with female anatomy.’”
California, according to the HHS, is effectively indoctrinating students through programs like PREP.
“California’s refusal to comply with federal law and remove egregious gender ideology from federally funded sex-ed materials is unacceptable,” Acting Assistant Secretary for the Administration of Children and Families Andrew Gradison said. “The Trump Administration will not allow taxpayer dollars to be used to indoctrinate children. Accountability is coming for every state that uses federal funds to teach children delusional gender ideology.”
California has yet to reply to the actions of HHS against funding sexual education and “gender identity” public education initiatives.
