Support for our Constitution’s Second Amendment has soared during this unique year of lockdowns coupled with unrest in America’s cities as Americans have purchased firearms at record-setting levels.

In 2020, Americans have bought more than 17 million guns–more than in any other calendar year in history.

What does this mean culturally for the United States? Record firearm sales point toward several cultural trends, chief among them increased self-reliance and distrust in government agencies. While calls to defund police agencies are growing, especially in large cities with high crime rates like New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles, it appears citizens are willing to take their safety into their own hands.

The last time we saw a record-breaking year in firearm sales was 2016, with 16.6 million firearms sold amid national calls for extreme gun-control measures by prominent politicians running for office.

One thing is clear–Americans are self-reliant and believe in our Constitutional framework, and they’re showing it at firearm retailers in 2020.
