‘Hands Off!’ Thousands of Protesters Nationwide Declare in Protest of President Trump

Protester Demonstrating During a “Hands Off!” Protest

Throughout the past weekend, a series of roughly 1,200 coordinated protests took place nationwide as protesters demonstrated against the agendas and policies of US President Donald Trump.

150 groups – including civil rights groups, labor unions, LBGTQ+ advocates, veterans, and political activists – took part, according to the Associated Press.

A variety of “alleged” issues emanating from the White House were protested against, all under the umbrella of “democracy” being attacked. The key phrase used to describe the protests was “Hands Off!” with connection to democracy, social security, and other programs deemed necessities.

Political leaders participated in some of the protests. During a protest in Boston, Mayor Michelle Wu was present. She lamented over the Trump administration attacking diversity and equality and the effect that may have on her children in the future:

“I refuse to accept that they could grow up in a world where immigrants like their grandma and grandpa are automatically presumed to be criminals.”

A well-attended protest took place at the National Mall in Washington DC. Protesters railed against the recently imposed reciprocal tariffs and other policies enacted by the Trump presidency.

Maryland Representative Jamie Raskin was present at the National Mall and accused the Trump administration of dictatorship:

“Our founders wrote a Constitution that did not begin with ‘We the dictators,'” he said.

TPUSA Frontlines Reporter and White House Correspondent Monica Paige covered the protest at the National Mall. She asked several protesters their reason for protesting.

“Everything about this administration is totally dangerous, incompetent, corrupt – it’s a kleptocracy for haters,” one said.

Aside from the answer of “democracy,” some found issue with the administration’s alleged disregard for the rule of law, claiming that Congress needs to take power back from the President.

Another protester accused the current administration of kakistocracy, which is defined as “government by the least suitable or competent citizens of a state”.

“Having a fascist run our government,” was another protester’s complaint.

Paige later reported that the Indivisible Action PAC funded these “Hands Off!” protests. Indivisible Action received a $1.5 million allotment from Indivisible Project over the past two years, along with other donors donating smaller amounts.

“Turning Point USA’s commitment to the fight for freedom on campus is more important now than ever.”

- Senator Marco Rubio, Florida
