Earlier this month, a camper in Montana was enjoying the great outdoors when they encountered a rude awakening.

A grizzly bear wandered into their campsite, waking up the campers, but then ran off. The campers then removed all food items from their tent, secured it, and went back to bed…. But that wasn’t enough.

A few hours later, the bear showed up again.

“At about 3:30 a.m., the two people in the tent adjacent to the victim were awakened by sounds of the attack,” the FWP news release states.

“The bear pulled the victim from the tent during the fatal attack.”

Unfortunately, the 65-year-old victim did not survive the attack.

According to Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks, they are determined to find the grizzly bear responsible for the attack.

“The area that we’re dealing with in Ovando presents challenges, both terrain-wise and for brush cover,” Powell County Sheriff Gavin Roselles said. “There’s frankly a lot of places where a bear could hide.”

“It’s my understanding that Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks, in conjunction with the medical examiner, is being very diligent in collecting DNA samples,” Roselles said. “Those samples will be analyzed to help identify the particular bear that was involved.”

This is such a horrifying story and sad reality. Luckily, according to FWP, the bear has been found, shot and killed. They’re still waiting on DNA evidence but all signs point to this being the same bear that was involved in the deadly attack. Most importantly, Please keep the victim’s family and friends in your prayers.
