Greta Thunberg, Climate Activists, Detained by Police at German Coal Mine

Greta Thunberg, a Swedish climate change activist, has allegedly been detained at a German coal mine after she and other protestors “rushed towards the ledge” of the Garzweiler 2 mine, according to police.
The video above, initially shared by numerous media outlets and circulated online of Thunberg being carried away by officers has been accused of being staged, in an effort to force the hand of Germany authorities and prevent the coal mine from being expanded. There is a possibility that German police are sympathetic to the climate cause, as many in the country are, and were willing to participate in a dramatized detainment to increase media interest in the story. The incident also occurred at the same time as the World Economic Forum Summit in Davos where climate change and renewable energy are the main topics being discussed.
Nearly 200 protestors have been actively preventing RWE, a German energy corporation, from digging the land within their newly purchased town of Lützerath, to expand the Garzweiler 2 coal mine. Last week, after days of demonstrations and delays, German authorities warned protesters that if they did not evacuate the area today, they would be forcibly detained. Activists claim that expanding the mining operation would be counterproductive to Germany’s commitment to “climate-friendly” energy sources.
“The land around and under Lützerath is rich in lignite – the dirtiest form of coal. The mine, a bleak and dull brown man-made canyon which stretches over 35 square kilometres, yields 25 million tonnes of the stuff every year.”

While it has made a number of investments in clean energy sources, RWE stated that the mine expansion is necessary this winter, as an energy crisis continues to plague European nations. For years, Germany has pursued radical climate policies, while outsourcing their energy needs primarily to Russia. In the wake of the Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Europe placed harsh economic sanctions on Russia, causing the nation to reduce the oil supply sent to Germany and other dependent countries.
“These nations bought into the green energy propaganda years before solar, wind, or hydro energy sources were established enough to provide reliable energy for growing populations.”

Despite the fact that climate activist-approved sources are incapable of meeting the nation’s energy demand this winter — and a shortage could prove perilous for citizens who need electricity to heat their homes, store their food, and for transportation, Greta Thunberg and other self-righteous activists like those from the WEF have taken it upon themselves to seal the fate of millions of European residents.
