Furry Activist named ‘Metro Mutt’ Announces Run for Minnesota City Council Election

The race for a city council seat in Maple Grove, Minnesota, is attracting significant attention as 31-year-old Clarke Macbeth, a self-identified furry, has announced his candidacy.
Macbeth, who goes by the name “Metro Mutt” within the furry community, is running for the Maple Grove City Council. Macbeth has been dressing up as his furry character—a dog-like costume in white, blue, and yellow—since 2017.
Macbeth has taken his campaign to BlueSky, a left-leaning social media platform that is similar to X. In a recent post, he described himself as the “most qualified candidate for Maple Grove City Council,” expressing his desire to bring fresh energy to local politics, which he criticized for having “done too little for too long.”
“The Minneapolis suburb that is Maple Grove could have a furry on its city council because our local politics have done too little for too long, just like Maple Grove Transit,” Macbeth said in his post.
Macbeth’s WikiFur page describes him as an American politician, activist, and furry who has been a resident of Maple Grove for years. The page notes that he “celebrates Minnesota’s advancements in LGBTQ+ rights, cultural diversity and spiritual freedom.” It also says that he “formally declared allegiance to the furry community” when he was just 16 after he discovered the community online. He has since been a “regular presence at regional gatherings,” according to the Daily Mail.
In a BlueSky post from July, Macbeth made a provocative statement about furry culture, saying, “See, the great thing about furry porn is that it is both furry and porn.”
Macbeth has also claimed that he will be participating in a candidate debate scheduled on October 8 that will be hosted by CCX Media, a local news outlet.
