Former Dept. of Energy Official Sam Brinton Allegedly Stole, Wore Designer’s Clothing

Tanzanian fashion designer, Asya Khamsin alleged that former Department of Energy Official Sam Brinton was photographed wearing custom clothing she created, and then had stolen along with her luggage from a Washington D.C. airport in 2018.

The now Houston based designer wrote about the theft in a Twitter post earlier this week, which included a photo from 2018 of her wearing the custom dress she designed, alongside an image of Sam Brinton wearing what appears to be the same dress.

Some Twitter users accused Khamsin of photoshopping the image of her wearing the dress, however her Instagram page dates the photo, which was not altered or falsified, back to March 5, 2018.

Khamsin explained that her luggage, which contained the custom dress and other signature clothing items, was stolen from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport on March 9, 2018. Khamsin only found the images of Brinton wearing her dress after he was caught stealing luggage from airports in Washington D.C., Minneapolis, and Nevada.

Sam Brinton has been in the national spotlight since his debut as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Spent Fuel and Waste Disposition in the Office of Nuclear Energy, which operates within the Department of Energy, falling under the executive branch of the Federal government. The “non-binary” former official uses they/them pronouns, performs at drag shows, enjoys “pup-play,” and claims to have worshipped “daddy Fauci.”

“Originally when police confronted Brinton, he denied all accusations of stealing another bag stating, ‘if I had taken the wrong bag, I am happy to return it, but I don’t have clothes for another individual‘ . . . He later called the airport to come clean and report that he did ‘mistakenly’ take the bag and said that he was ‘nervous’ of what others may say.”

Brinton was first charged by Minnesota prosecutors on October 26, 2022 for stealing luggage appraised at $2,325, but was later released without bail. Later that year, Nevada prosecutors charged Brinton with grand larceny for stealing luggage from Harry Reid International Airport. Brinton one again was released however, “after a judge set bail in the case at $15,000 and ordered Brinton to ‘stay out of trouble.'” according to Fox News.

Following the national attention he gained for being the world’s worst kleptomaniac, Brinton left the Department of Energy without further comment on what caused his departure.
