Florida Sends Planes of Illegal Immigrants to Martha’s Vineyard

Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts

For the past few months, states Arizona and Texas have been bussing migrants from border towns to places like New York City, Chicago, and Washington D.C. all of which are sanctuary cities, and guarantee illegal immigrants protection from ICE deportations. Now, it is being reported that Florida has just sent two planes carrying about 50 migrants in total to Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts.

Martha’s Vineyard is a popular vacation island destination for the extremely wealthy as well as Hollywood celebrities, where the median home price was $1,035,000 in 2020. Former President Barak Obama also has a home on the island, a beautiful $11.75 million estate.

‘Florida can confirm the two planes with illegal immigrants that arrived in Martha’s Vineyard today were part of the state’s relocation program to transport illegal immigrants to sanctuary destinations,’ Governor DeSantis’s communications director Taryn Fenske said in a statement.”

There have been over 5 million illegal immigrants to cross over the US Southern Border over the past two years, mainly traveling through Eagle Pass, Texas, and Yuma, Arizona, only a fraction of that number have been shipped to sanctuary cities. It is a dangerous landscape to travel through, most recently nearly killing a woman attempting to cross the Rio Grande river. This is the same location which 9 migrants were reported etc have passed away just days before the incident.

Despite the comparatively small group of people sent to Martha’s Vineyard from Florida, Massachusetts authorities are stressing that the move has created an “urgent humanitarian situation.” Many have criticized the program for being inhumane, but have also neglected to address the humanitarian crisis that has plagued border communities for years on end. Florida has previously provided aid to Texas in attempt to ease the strain on towns and communities with dwindling resources.
