Florida Bans CCP, Chinese Citizens from Purchasing Land in the State

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed legislation banning Chinese citizens from purchasing land in the state unless they are permanent residents, or have U.S. citizenship.
SB264 also prohibits Russian, Iranian, Syrian, North Korean, Cuba, and Venezuelan citizens from owning or buying land within 10 miles of airports, power plants, military bases, and other critical infrastructure points. Citizens of these nations are still able to purchase land in the state; however, they will have to abide by these new restrictions.
“We don’t want the [Chinese Communist Party] in the Sunshine State,” DeSantis said at a press conference. “We want to maintain this as the free state of Florida.”
Governor DeSantis said that the CCP has made a “concerted effort to acquire farmland throughout the United States.” He added that “Food security is also national security, and so we don’t want the CCP in charge of any food production.”
U.S. Senator Tom Cotton, while addressing the massive land purchases being made by individuals and entities with direct ties to the CCP, said “At best, this submits American land and resources to China’s best interests, not America’s—at worst, these purchases serve as outposts for Chinese espionage campaigns against American businesses and military bases.”
The CCP does not permit private land ownership in China, and all land is either referred to as “state-owned” or “collective land.” Similarly, all “private” companies in China are required to strictly adhere to the CCP.
“China owned 352,140 acres of U.S. land in 2020, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, about 1% of total foreign-held acres. Canadian investors owned 12.4 million acres the same year, the most of any foreign country.”

One Chinese H-1B visa holder, Zihua Hé, told a local outlet in Florida that he would not be able to buy a house under the new law because only permanent residents or those who obtain American citizenship are eligible to purchase land. “It’s a part of my American dream,” he said — but apparently obtaining American citizenship is not.
In addition to signing SB264, Governor DeSantis signed SB846 prohibiting Florida’s state universities and colleges from accepting funds provided by “foreign countries of concern.” He also signed a law that will prohibit the Chinese-owned social media company TikTok on all government-issued devices and internet networks. The social media platform is the second most popular web domain on earth, following closely behind the search engine Google.
It has been revealed that the app exists practically as spyware by tracking detailed and sensitive information from its users. This has led to several prominent figures calling for the app to be banned from all Americans, as they fear it could cause a national security threat — as all data collected by the app is made directly available to the CCP.
“[T]he adoption of the National Intelligence Law in 2017 requires all firms in China to accede to government demands to provide information and data as authorities deem necessary to protect China’s national security.”
